Wilde Cabaret: “Lakeside Sings Streisand”

Jordan FranciscoChamber Ensembles, Wilde Cabaret

Title of show on the right side: Wilde Cabaret's Lakeside Sings Streisand cover art, red theatre curtain in the back with a colorful image of Barbra Streisand on the left, at Sidetrack

This month, the Lakeside Pride Wilde Cabaret celebrates the life and times of Barbra Streisand. Since getting her start over six decades ago at the gay nightclub “The Lion” in Greenwich Village, Barbra has been known for playing fiercely strong, outspoken, quirky characters, each of whom has powerhouse vocals to express her powerful emotions – exactly the type of diva that queer people adore.  Ms. Streisand herself has been similarly vocal about her support for the queer community, once writing in a letter to Billboard: “we’re all unique and beautiful in our own way and entitled to love and be loved by whomever we choose.”  Unsurprisingly, she has been named one of the top divas by the queer community in Out Magazine, Gay Times, and more. This performance was originally scheduled for April in honor of Babs birthday.

About this Season

This year’s season is entitled Rise, which encapsulates the LGBTQ community’s ongoing struggles and its persistence to resolve them, whether that be to survive, to thrive, or to live in harmony with each other. Lakeside Pride is no different, and as we’ve adapted to the pandemic, we find ourselves stronger and more resilient than ever. We continue to be a welcoming family for our members and friends across the Chicagoland area.

We’ve risen to the challenge of keeping our community safe, healthy, strong, and exuberant. We’ve overcome adversity from the pandemic and societal unrest, and continue to use our platform to inspire our members and audiences to join us in our revitalization. We still have lots to do and many barriers to overcome. But by banding together, we can continue to change hearts and minds, grow as a community, and heroically rise to any occasion.
