As Simple as 1-2-3!
Joining or renewing your membership with us takes less than five minutes and helps ensure the future of our LGBT music ensembles in Chicagoland. Annual membership dues are 25% of our annual operating budget, which covers the cost of everything from rehearsal space to sheet music and scores to the basic cost of doing business as a non-profit organization.
We believe in making membership in Lakeside Pride as affordable as possible, and have membership categories with reduced rates for students and seniors:
- $120 – full membership
- $90 – full membership (student/senior)
- $50 – marching-only membership
You Have Questions, We Have Answers!
Who can join?
Membership is open to all people with basic musical proficiency who support the vision and mission of Lakeside Pride. City or suburbs, male or female, gay or straight, music professional or avid enthusiast, we believe the diversity of our members is an important part of our success.
What skill level is required?
The difficulty of the music varies among our ensembles so members of all musical skill levels can participate. Whether you’re looking for a laid-back place to play your horn, or a musical challenge, we know you will be able to see yourself with us after your first rehearsal.
How much time is involved?
Rehearsals for our major ensembles are once a week for two-hours during the season, plus the dress rehearsal and performance. Our artistic leadership team understands our members are busy and they schedule each season with this in mind. Please email us at email@example.com if you have any concerns.
What do I bring to rehearsals?
Music stand, instrument, pencil with eraser, music folder, flip folder for marching music. Each ensemble manages the distribution of music differently. If you are planning to attend a rehearsal, email firstname.lastname@example.org so we can have music ready for you. Please do not take music home until you have committed to performing with us.
Why do you charge a membership fee?
It takes a lot of money to keep an organization like Lakeside Pride on stage. We must pay for rehearsal and storage space, instruments, music, publicity for events, fees to the government and music licensing, and so much more. Thirty-five percent of our annual operating budget comes from membership dues. Waivers, discounts, and scholarships are available to individuals where dues create a financial hardship.
How do I join?
For our jazz orchestra, marching band, small ensembles, and symphonic band, just show up! Email email@example.com so we have a stand and chair, or a position in a parade, waiting for you. There are no auditions for these three ensembles and we accept new members throughout the year.
Do you offer opportunities for vocalists?
Chicago has a number of LGBT choral organizations, including Artemis Singers, Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus, and Windy City Performing Arts. We’ve collaborated in the past, and look forward to working with each of them again in the future.
